About Aurora Field Notes

Dispatches from above the Arctic Circle. Storms, light, silence, and survival.

Why the cold places

There's a particular quiet that only exists above 65 degrees north. Tove Halvorsrud comes back to it every winter, and these notes are an honest attempt to describe what it's like, mostly from the small guesthouse in Aurvik that Liv Ravnaas keeps. For the reader who's never been, and the one who's planning their first trip.

What we stand for

Slow travel

Five nights at least, and nothing booked for the last day. We don't do drive-by Instagram tourism.

Honest light

We write down what the light actually did, including the nights it never showed. The aurora doesn't need exaggerating.

Patient writing

Notes go from notebook to draft to published over three months. No hot takes.
